NOW PLAYING: Aftermath of the Madness

7 April, 2000
So the Final Four is over -- and though I picked the winning team correctly, I lost the pool by a slim margin on points. Too many surprise upsets.

Though I evidently didn't have the Faith of a True Fan™ and said the Tar Heels couldn't go far this year, they did. Who knew they'd suddenly become a team? The 'Heels picked a good time to come together, making it to the Final Four, but where was that cohesiveness the rest of the year? Anyway, it was fun seeing them make the run.

Some of the upsets that I did get right: Gonzaga over Louisville, Pepperdine beat Indiana, and Seton Hall got by Oregon. The Kentucky - St. Bonaventure game went down to the wire, so I was close on that one, too. Duke got beat, but not by Temple. Congrats to the Gators for that!

My Final Four picks were demolished:

  • Arizona (lost to the Badgers in the Regionals)
  • Michigan State (the only one I had right)
  • Temple (beat by The Hall -- whoda thunk it?)
  • Stanford (couldn't believe UNC won!)

I actually didn't watch the Championship game on Monday night... yeah, I know. The Wife tells me I'm not a Real Fan, but I was working my butt off that night on a batch of information for a Major Announcement™ that was appearing on the corporate intranet the next day. So I would have had a hard time watching it even if I'd had a team to root for in the game.

Better luck next year, I suppose.
