THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT GIFs

  • GIFs are good for graphics, text-art, cartoons, line-art, etc.

  • GIFs can have 256 colors, max. Often less.

  • Try to use less than 256 colors, and if possible, don't dither!

santa Santa's a good candidate for a GIF -- many areas of flat, solid color, no gradations to worry about.

In this case, Santa has 38 colors in him -- far less than the 256 allowed, which helps keep his file size down. He weighs in at a slim-n-trim 2.8k -- about a 3 second download.
