Tables can be nested inside other tables, and aligned just like images. They can be colored, and used as text call-outs or to hold an image.

Tables can give you a great deal of control in designing a web page. In fact, it'd be tough to create a complex page layout without them. The bad news is, tables are tough to build, until you get used to them. Even then, you'll get thrown now and again. Something won't work, and you get to play Detective until you solve the mystery.

The borders to the tables on this page have been "turned on" so you can see what's happening here. The tables constrain the text on the page, keeping the line length at a certain size. There are fights about whether this is a Good Thing or Ultimate Evil all the time -- you'll have to make your own decision.
